Step 1 - Things to know before you file a complaint

  • The Canadian Ombudsperson for Responsible Enterprise (CORE) can accept complaints about possible human rights abuses arising from the operations of Canadian companies in other countries, in the following sectors:
    • garment (clothes, shoes or fabric)
    • mining
    • oil and gas

What about safety?

Can you file a complaint for someone else, for an organization, or for a community?

Step 2 - Can we help you?

The CORE can only take complaints about certain things. If we can’t help you, we will try to find another organization that can.

Please answer all questions marked as required.

1. Is your complaint about a Canadian company or a company that is controlled by a Canadian company? (required)
2. Does the company do business in one of these areas? (required)
3. Is your complaint about something that happened or is happening outside of Canada? (required)
4. Is your complaint about a possible human rights abuse? (required)
5. Is your complaint about something that happened after May 1, 2019? (required)
6. If what you are complaining about started before May 1, 2019, is it still happening today? (optional)

Step 3 - Privacy and confidentiality

  • Personal information is information about who you are and includes information that you may consider private.
  • We would like you to give us your name, email address, and phone number so we can contact you about your complaint. This is personal information.
  • If we decide that we can deal with your complaint, we will give your name or the name of the individual, organization or community that you are filing the complaint for, to the Canadian company, unless you ask us not to. If you do not want the Canadian company to have your name, we will talk to you about your complaint proceeding anonymously.
  • We will not give your contact information or the contact information of other people to the Canadian company.
  • To learn about how we protect your personal information, please read how your personal information is collected, used, and stored.

Step 6 – Use of your personal information to improve how we do our work

I agree that the CORE may use the personal information provided and gathered for the complaint to help improve the services provided by the CORE. This may be through identifying patterns in complaints, evaluation of how we are doing our work, or analyzing complaint information.

I understand that when the CORE uses personal information for their own research, evaluation and related uses, the CORE will not publicly disclose information that identifies me or anyone else.
